Have you ever wondered what it means to spin out university research? What does it take to turn your PhD research into a company? Which resources can you tap into?
If so, don’t miss the mini-symposium taking place as a hybrid event at the Université de Montréal MIL Campus (Room A-3502.1) on Tuesday, 29 November from 9 to 10:45 AM (Zoom link will follow shortly). To register, please fill in this short form: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/468747194477 . Coffee and snacks will be served.
In the first part, Dr Holly Reeve, CEO and co-founder at HydRegen (biocatalytic hydrogenation), will join us virtually from the UK to talk about this spin-out of the University of Oxford based on research Dr Reeve carried out as a PhD student. We will also find out more about the challenges Dr Reeve had to overcome on the way to becoming a scientific entrepreneur. The title of her talk will be “HydRegen: taking a biotechnology from academic research to commercialisation” and the session will be chaired by Dr Nikolay Kornienko, assistant professor at the Department of chemistry at UdeM and QCAM member.
The following session will address scientific entrepreneurship: Ms Felicity Meyer, Quebec Investment Associate of the venture capital fund Front Row Ventures will give the talk “Lab to market”. This session will also feature a presentation by Ms Marie-Claude Lemire, the director of the UdeM Innovation Centre and of Millénium Québecor (a programme advocating entrepreneurship awareness among the UdeM community). Ms Marie-Claude Lemire will give an overview of Millénium Québecor’s service offer. You can find more information about Ms Lemire on the UdeM website (French only).
The mini-symposium will take place in English and is co-organised by two FRQNT strategic clusters, CGCC and QCAM, along with Millénium Québecor.
