Biography

Department of Chemical Engineering, Université Laval
Regular Researcher

Prof. Larachi’s research focuses on developing micro- and multifunctional processes and materials for use in marine engineering, (bio)energy, mineral resources, and environmental solutions. He emphasizes upgrading/converting/blending/substituting fossil resources with green (biomass) routes, mitigating greenhouse gases through CO₂ capture and conversion, and studying aqueous/interfacial chemistry in mineral beneficiation and hydrometallurgy. He has co-authored over 450 peer-reviewed journal articles and three books, and delivered more than 20 plenary or keynote lectures at international conferences. He has served as an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering and as a member of the editorial or advisory boards of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Chemical Engineering & Processing: Process Intensification, and Indian Chemical Engineer. He has received numerous distinctions, including a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, two NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplements, and a ULaval Research Summa Award. Prof. Larachi holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the Institut National Polytechnique, Université de Lorraine (France), and completed postdoctoral research at École Polytechnique de Montréal. He has also been a visiting scientist with Total (France), the Institut Français du Pétrole (IFPEN), and the Consortium de Recherche Minérale (COREM), where he completed two sabbatical stays.
